About Dr. Don

In the late 1970’s, I gave my life to Christ. For many years before that, I ignored the Holy Spirit and prayed only to Christ and God the Father. Quite frankly, the Holy Spirit was not even on my spiritual radar. As a young Catholic Christian, I was not taught the position and potential power of the Holy Spirit. Sure, I knew the Holy Spirit was placed in me when I was baptized. I also knew the Holy Spirit made me a soldier of Christ, but I never viewed the Holy Spirit as active with or as close to me as Jesus Christ.

My spiritual life and efforts were all directed in prayer and action to Jesus Christ and God the Father. So I always prayed “Oh dear Jesus,” or “Oh dear Father God.” I never prayed “Oh sweet Holy Spirit.” I knew that the Holy Spirit was a person of the Holy Trinity, but I never knew how important the Holy Spirit was to his eternal salvation.

The change came in 1978 when I accepted Jesus by being baptized in the Holy Spirit. It was then I realized what was meant by Matthew 3:11 which read as follows:

“I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”

Ever since that time I have been walking and talking with the Holy Spirit and my life has been empowered through, in and with him. So much so that, I, realized that to live life without the Holy Spirit is not to be connected with Christ and Father God. I understood that if I did not have a walking and talking relationship with the Holy Spirit than my relationship with Christ and God the Father would be greatly hampered.

I came to know that one may go to church, keep the commandments, do good deeds, and talk to Jesus in prayer but if one is doing all this through their power and not the power of the Holy Spirit, a vast spiritual gap will exist in their spiritual relationship.

Without a relationship with the Holy Spirit, the third person of God you are dealing with the first two persons of God with a handicap. Stop and ask yourself, have you accepted the existence of the Holy Spirit? If you have not accepted the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life, you cannot receive His power. Once I accepted the Holy Spirit, my life was changed immediately and forever.

It is like this. If a puzzle were missing a piece, one would still have somewhat of an idea of what the puzzle would look like, but having the missing puzzle piece would give a complete picture of the puzzle. And so it is with the Holy Spirit without Him one may know the first and second person of the Holy Trinity but accepting the Holy Spirit completes that knowledge and relationship. It gives a Christian the full picture. Without the Holy Spirit, there will always be a piece of God missing. Please understand, if you are not working with the Holy Spirit, you still may know Jesus and God the Father, but again, you will never have full knowledge and love of Christ and God the Father without the Holy Spirit.
