The Door Of Eternity

I am your source
of love and peace.
You must realize
that your God is not
interested where you were
yesterday or before.
Nor am I concerned with where
you will be tomorrow.
The only thing that is
important in the face of eternity
is where you are today.
Are you following me today?
Do you love me today?
Are you in my service today?
Are you further along in your walk
with me today then you were yesterday?
The past is the past and the future is not here.
Eternity is all about where you are now.
I have forgiven and forgotten all your sins.
Have you done the same? Hear me now
you cannot enjoy my love and grace today
if you are still guilt-ridden about yesterday
or worried about tomorrow
Be at peace with where
you are today for it is in the now
that the door of eternity opens

Dr. Don’s Reflections

I still catch myself living in the past either regretting it or wishing the good old days were back. And, of course, I am always wondering about the future. But even when I catch myself bouncing back and forth between the past and the future, I quickly realize that it is the present that counts. It is not what did I do with my life in the past or what will I do with it in the future, no, it is always what I am doing with my life today. It was the Lord who taught me to ask that question.  Every time I went to him with the regrets and sorrow of the past and the worries of the future, my loving God would say, I am only interested in today. He would tell me that not only has he forgiven me for the past but he has forgotten about it also. And he was quick to remind me that the future belongs to him and it is not in my control. 

That is what it is really is all about, isn’t it?  Control! All the years I have been walking with the Lord it still comes down to control even though for the most part I have turned control over to the Lord I still have cravings in my depths that want it back.  Isn’t control what Eve thought she and Adam would get

by eating the apple, of course, my salvation is all about control. Keep control to myself and salvation is lost, if I give it up to the Lord then eternity is mine.  

Unfortunately for me, this understanding did not come easy since I am an “I’ll do it myself” type of guy. but after years of giving control to the Lord and taking it back only to give it back to him once, I screwed it up has taught me my life on this earth and in eternity is much better controlled by God then by me

My goal in life both secularly and spiritually is to live for today according to the Lord’s will. When flashes of the past come up, I dismiss them quickly knowing it is of the evil one. When it comes to the future at my age, I realize most of my future is in eternity and as the Holy Spirit said in his whisper to me “it is in the now that the door of eternity opens.”  I’m ready.

Dr. Don’s Comments

Do you find it difficult to not lose yourself in the past or the worries of the future?  Do you catch yourself lost in such thoughts that rob you of the present?  Do you have a relationship with the Lord but still insist on keeping control over your life? Are you looking for the peace and happiness which causes calm in your life which is what you really seek? If so you need to make some changes in your relationship with God. Please know that I am not suggesting the changes that you will need to make will be easy, however, I can tell you once you make the changes you will wish you had done it earlier in your life. And the most important change you can make is to live for today in and with the Lord.

God cannot walk and work with you if you are wailing about the past or worrying about the future. It is not that he does not want to help you or he will not try to help you it is just that a “wailing” and “worrying” soul is a poor receiver of the grace of God.  Without the grace of God, you can do nothing. It is the grace of God that gives you the courage to trust him and allow him to control your life. Without the grace of God, you cannot find peace and fulfillment in your life that you want.

So in your prayer time ask the Lord to free you of the regrets of the past and the fear of the future. Tell him you want to live in the moment and let him take control of who you are and who you will become. You cannot do it by yourself. Satan will always be reminding you of your sins and screw-ups for they call him the great accuser just for this reason.

So if you are carrying burdens from the past and anxieties for the future. Stop. Turn it all over to Christ.

A simple prayer like this will do the trick. “Dear Lord, I have been carrying the shame and sins of the past. I am fearful of the future.  I ask you to take control of my life so I can live with you in the present.”  It does not matter the words you use for the Lord will look into your heart and know your intent.
