THE FEAR PRAYER

WHISPERS TO AND FROM THE HOLY SPIRIT

When Will The Waters Calm

Jesus, my boat is being tossed
about the waves of life.
The winds of the world
are against me.
I feel I will never reach
the shore of peace.
When will the waters, calm
Sweet Jesus.
Lord, the land seems so far away.
I’m scared, Lord.
Why is it, this is the boat
you have for me?
Take courage you say to me.
Don’t be afraid.
Yet, when I take my eyes off you
I am terrified.
Why have you called me
as your disciple?
You need stronger souls
than I. Even, so Lord
look at me
I am walking on water
toward you.
I am in the midst of
trouble seas.
My eyes are fixed
on you, Lord.
But when my stare flickers
even for an instant
I feel like I am sinking
into the depths of hell.
Then you hear my cry
“Lord, save me “
Stretching out your hands
I fall into your arms.
Yes, I am of little faith.
I do not know why I doubt.
With you are sailing my boat
the wind dies down.
With you are sailing my boat
the seas are still.
With you are sailing my boat
I know, I am saved.
Truly, you are
the Son of God

Dr. Don’s Reflection

These were words given to me by the Holy Spirit years ago. I took the words and formed a prayer out of them. You may ask “how do you know these words were from the Holy Spirit and not just of your mind.”  To which I would answer that I could never come up with words that fit together so beautifully.

I had to learn how to listen to the Whispers To and From The Holy Spirit because I thought everything was coming from my mind, imagination or intellect.  Then I realized that all the Whispers To and From The Holy Spirit that I received usually started with a word or two and I usually received these words during my quiet time in prayer. From a word or a phrase, these words would turn into a full communication from the Holy Spirit which I call Whispers To and From The Holy Spirit.

While this Whisper was given to me a long time ago, I have no doubt it was during a very fearful and stressful time in my life. Through the grace of the Holy Spirit, I received these words so I could recite them back to God in prayer. Why? Because more than likely I did not know how to express my feelings to God in my own words. So the Holy Spirit whispered the words to me so I could pray them back to God. How cool is that?  Read Luke 12:12

“For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”

When I finished writing this prayer, I could not believe I wrote these words. They certainly were not of me. It was communications like these that convinced me that the Holy Spirit indeed was communicating with me.  From that point on I had no doubt. The Whispers To and From The Holy Spirit kept coming, and I would never go into prayer without a pen and paper.

The Whispers To and from the Holy Spirit did not come to me every time in prayer but many more times than not. And I believe the Whispers To and From The Holy Spirit came many times when I was not listening.  The one thing I learned for sure is that you have to have open ears and open heart to listen. If either you ears or heart is closed, you will not hear the Whispers To and From The Holy Spirit.

Dr. Don’s Comments

My definition of prayer is “a conversation of God.”  But a conversation requires talking and listening back and forth and not just one party talking. Is your prayer time one-sided?  Is it just you talking, praising, asking, petitioning with the hopes that God is listening?  If this is so, I can tell you that your prayer life is not fulfilling.

Imagine having a visit from a friend, and all you do is talk, talk, talk.  Sooner or later your friend is going to say, “will you shut up so I can say something.’  Well, that is how it is with God. If you do not stop your prayer talk so he can talk to you, then that time in prayer is going to become difficult, dry and dull.  Open your ears and heart to what the Lord has to say.

To do this, you have to add a quiet time to your prayer time. When you finish what you have to say (pray) to God sit still in silence and recite these words, “Holy Spirit my ears and heart are open to your words (I call them Whispers). Please fill me full of your guidance and direction so I may be in the midst of God’s will.”  And then be still and listen. You may hear the word “abandoned.”  Just hold on to that word in your ears and heart and then write the words that come after that word.  So after you hear the word “abandoned” you may sit for a while and then hear, “I will never abandon you.”  And then you sit for a while longer, or maybe it is right away word after word as it is for me most often, and you hear, “I will always protect you.” So you write that down. Now you have “I will never abandon you, I will always protect you.”  Now you can see the Whisper forming a communication to you, and it is indeed from the Holy Spirit.

You must be patient and consistent. I find the best way to start doing this is to allow yourself a pre-determined amount of silent time.  Let’s say you are going to pray for 10 minutes and you can sit silently for 10 minutes.  If this is what you allot then be committed to it. Sit there the full 10 minutes whether you hear a word or not. And do it every day whether you hear a word or not. Possibly you may be able to extend your silent time to 15 minutes if you can then do so and wait for a Whisper from the Holy Spirit. Sooner you will hear the Whisper of the Holy Spirit, but you have to withstand the test of time until you absorb the grace of the Holy Spirit to be on the same line of communication that he is. It will happen, but you cannot get frustrated and give up. You must persevere.

As you can see from my Whispers To and From The Holy Spirit that I post to this Blog; the Holy Spirit has Whispered to me on many different subjects and each in a different amount of words, it depends on what the Holy Spirit has to say to you.  Just write it down. After I write it down, I usually clean it up and type it. The Whisper is something you can read over and over to yourself. It means so much to you because you know that it is your own personal/spiritual correspondence from God.

Sometimes the Whispers I got from the Holy Spirit have taken me to task by telling me I was inconsistent in following Jesus or I lacked discipline.  All Whispers are not spiritual “rah-rahs.” The Holy Spirit in his Whispers does not tell you what you want to hear but rather what he needs to say to you. They are honest, open communications that come from the Holy Spirit who if he is whispering to you, the Holy Spirit should be doing so from the core of your being.

These Whispers are profound, and you should hear Whispers To and From The Holy Spirit, if you are not, practice what I have described above. I promise you the Holy Spirit will Whisper to you.
